Today I spent some time shopping for and putting together decoration ideas for my tables. We have a dinner during the auction, and all the ladies (and some men) of the church take a table and create some kind of centerpiece or theme to make the table look fun and appealing. They range from simple Christmas decorations to elaborate Dr. Seuss-like themes. Here are a few examples from a few years ago and the first table I ever decorated, a candy-themed creation.
I mentioned in my previous post the Lottie Moon Christmas auction my church does every year to raise money for international missions. Every dollar we receive from this event goes to support foreign missionaries as they work to share the gospel of Christ with unreached people groups all over the world. Last year we raised over $16,000 from ticket sales, baked goods, and auctioned items. It really is such a neat event and requires so much coordination and effort from so many within the church. Some of the ladies have been working and planning things since the beginning of the year! I volunteered to decorate two dinner tables this year. For one I chose the theme "Brown paper packages tied up with string" because that's one of my favorite Christmas-ish songs. The overall theme of the auction/dinner this year is "Christmas in the City" so for the other table, I decided to do a fancy black and white theme. This is some of what I have put together. I'll have to take pictures of the finished result at the auction and update this post with them. I'm looking forward to seeing all the other ideas people had this year and, most importantly, seeing what God will do with our efforts to honor him and help spread his glory throughout the world. We may not all be able to go, but we can all give, and that's kind of what this event is about. That, and it's just a lot of fun seeing all the creativity and getting in the mood for the Christmas season! *This post is part of a 31 day series called Real Life.
